MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin men's soccer team was bested by Edgewood, 0-3, Saturday evening. It was a tough matchup for the Falcons with the Eagles being undefeated in conference play coming into the game.
This was also the first win at Fitting Field for Edgewood. The Falcons began playing at Fitting Field in 2008, and the last time the Eagles won in Mequon was in 2007. In that 2007 match-up, Edgewood also defeated Concordia, 0-3.
Throughout the first half the Falcons' defense held strong, holding the visitors scoreless in the first 45 minutes. CUW was able to prevent the Eagles from scoring in some close calls in the box, including 10 corner kicks. A key part of this was starting goalie
Enrique Torres (Eau Claire, Wis.). The senior goalkeeper collected five saves off of 27 shots faced.
At the 69-minute mark, Edgewood was able to push past Concordia to score three goals in five minutes.
The Falcons' offense was also held back, only being able to get off one shot. Freshman
Ronan Kessler (Glenview, Ill.) was the sole player to get off a shot for the home team.
The Falcons look to find their first conference win on the road against Concordia Chicago on Wednesday. The match is slated to begin at 2 p.m. in River Forrest, Ill.
