Football Punches its Postseason Ticket With NACC Title

MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin Falcons are kings of the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference once again. The Falcons soared to a 35-0 victory over Rockford on Saturday to improve to 7-0 in the NACC and 8-1 on the year. The victory gives the Falcons at least a share of the NACC title and the automatic qualifying bid for the NCAA Tournament for the NACC, with a tiebreaker over St. Norbert.

The Falcons wasted no time finding the endzone on Saturday and scored on the opening drive. Sophomore Roman Funk (Scottsdale, Ariz.) found senior Jason Leonard (Tampa, Fla.) open near the 40-yardline and the senior outstepped the entire Rockford defense to score for the 52-yard touchdown.

The Birds started the second quarter with a fumble forced by Duncan Ireland III and recovered by Ben Birch. Six plays later, Funk found Leonard again down the leftside for an easy 32-yard pitch and catch for the touchdown.

Right before halftime, Roman Funk connected with sophomore Jack Bradley (Tucson, Ariz.) at the three-yard line and Bradley did the rest of the work for the third touchdown of the day.

The Falcons started the second half with a methodical drive down the field and the 14-play drive that consumed 6:48 of the quarter ended with a one-yard tush push for Roman Funk.

The Blue and White added to the lead through the ground in the third quarter with freshman Jerome Hinton (Racine, Wis.) rushing in a one-yard touchdown.

A blocked punt set up the Regents with an instant redzone opportunity in the fourth quarter, but sophomore Brock Roseman (Pueblo, Colo.) forced a fumble at the goal line that was recovered for a touchback for sophomore Kahlil Hargrove-Collins (Katy, Texas) to keep the shutout intact.

Roman Funk threw for 316 yards and three touchdowns in the victory.

The reigning NACC Offensive Player of the Week, Jason Leonard had two touchdowns and 147 yards.

Senior Ashar Thomas (Punta Gorda, Fla.) had 39 yards on the ground.

Cole Martin connected on all five extra-point opportunities.

Duncan Ireland III and Brock Roseman both had seven tackles and a forced fumble in the victory.

This is the first NACC title for the Falcons since 2013.

The Falcons earned some rest and will be back in action on Nov. 15 for senior day against Eureka. The Blue and White can with the NACC outright with a victory or a St. Norbert loss at either Aurora or Lakeland.
