MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin women's basketball team showed grit and determination Wednesday night, going toe-to-toe early with one of the nation's top programs. The Falcons hosted third-ranked Wisconsin-Oshkosh, with the visiting Titans ultimately pulling away for a 71-30 victory.
The Falcons kept things tight in the opening quarter, trailing by just a single possession at 10-7. After Oshkosh struck first, sophomore Alexa Schwartz (Treynor, Iowa) connected from beyond the arc to tie the game at seven.
Junior Gracie McNabb (Grafton, Wis.) opened second-quarter scoring with a layup that brought the Falcons within one, before the Titans went on an extended run. Junior Andrea Butterbrodt (Green Bay, Wis.) halted the surge with a jumper midway through the quarter, and junior Jayden Ross (Baraboo, Wis.) added a late left-handed layup to close the first half.
Freshman Alayna Feekes (Buffalo, Minn.) sparked the Falcons after halftime with a quick layup to start the third quarter. Butterbrodt and McNabb each contributed three points in the frame as CUW scored 10 points in the third quarter.
Jayden Ross started the fourth-quarter scoring for the Falcons and freshman Amya Pluess (Burlington, Wis.) scored her first points as a Falcon with a three-point basket.
Butterbrodt led the Falcons with nine points and six rebounds.
Concordia will now turn its focus to the Hyatt Place Tournament hosted by Augustana next weekend, opening play against Greenville in the semifinals.
