Women's Basketball Soars to First Win of the Season

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The Concordia Wisconsin women's basketball team secured their first win of the season with a 56-48 victory over Greenville. This game was a part of the Hyatt Place Tournament, hosted by Augustana (Ill.). Along with the Falcons and the Panthers, St. Cathrine and Augustana are competing in the tournament. This was also the first time these two squats have ever met.

The Falcons got off to a hot start in the first few minutes of the contest. The team went on an 8-1 run in the first 3:28. Junior Andrea Butterbrodt (Green Bay, Wis.) and freshman Amya Pluess (Burlington, Wis.) scored four points each and went a combined 4-6 from the floor.

Coming out of the half CUW created a 16-4 run against Greenville in the third. Lasting just over six minutes, the Falcons went 5-11 from the floor and a perfect 6-6 from the charity stripe.

The Royal Blue and Grey maintained their lead a majority of the contest, only allowing the Panthers to lead twice for a total of 56 seconds. This led the team to cruise past their opponents for their first victory of the season.

Butterbrodt finished with a career high 16-points. The junior went 6-13, only shooting from inside the arc, and 100% (6-6) from the free throw line.

Freshman Isabela Gunderson (Waukesha, Wis.) also had a career day. Gunderson had 10 points in only 11 minutes of play. This included her first three-pointer of her collegiate career.

Pluess was one point shy of a double-double. The freshman had 10 of the Falcons 43 rebounds. She also let the team in assists and steals with four each.

With the win Concordia advances to tomorrow's championship against St. Cathrine. This is another first-time matchup for the Falcons. With tip-off to be announced, the contest will take place at the Roy J. Carver Center.
