LAKE FOREST, Ill. – For the second straight weekend, a rivalry trophy is on the line for the Concordia Wisconsin men's hockey team and for the second-straight weekend, the Falcons opened the weekend with a road victory. The Falcons soared to a 7-4 victory to 3-4-0 and 2-3-0 in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association.
Freshman Cooper Brown (Airdrie, Alberta) started the scoring with his first collegiate goal when he was left unmarked in front of the net off assists from sophomore Evan Forrest (Spruce Grove, Alberta) and sophomore Jack Guvenal (Georgetown, Ontario).
Junior Riley Klugerman (Aurora, Ontario) lit the lamp on an odd-man rush off tic-tac-toe passes from left to right from sophomore Connor Van Weelie (Mississauga, Ontario) and junior Alex Ochitwa (Prince George, British Columbia).
The Foresters cut the Concordia lead in half to close the first period.
Lake Forest tied the game at two in the third minute of the second period.
The Falcons broke the tie a minute later with a sharp-angled shot from Riley Klugerman after Alex Ochitwa started the break down the ice.
LFC tied the game halfway through the second period at three.
Once again, the Falcons responded with another goal a minute later. The Falcons soared down the ice with a 2-0 breakaway, with freshman Matt Green (Barrie, Ontario) scoring off the touch from Cooper Brown who connected on the stretch pass from Evan Forrest.
Lake Forest tied the game for the third time on Friday with a goal in the first minute of the third period.
Cooper Brown scored the game-winning goal after he was set up by freshman Easton Penna (Coboconk, Ontario) dancing around the defense and a secondary assist to Evan Forrest.
The Falcons iced the game late in the third period when Matt Green was at the back door open off a pass from Evan Forrest.
Evan Forrest capped off his five-point night with an empty net goal to end the game. The four assists are a career-best for Forrest.
The Foresters held a 41-38 advantage in shots on Friday night, but sophomore Cameron Hrdlicka (Calgary, Alberta) stood tall for the Falcons with 37 saves.
The Falcons can retain the Border Battle Cup with either a win or a tie on Saturday night. Round two will take place in the Ozaukee Ice Center.
