Women’s Hockey Hands Lake Forest its First Loss

MEQUON, Wis. – The Foresters rolled north in the Border Battle undefeated on Friday night, but travel home with the first loss of the season. The Concordia Wisconsin women's hockey team took round one of the Border Battle Cup with a 1-0 victory. The win keeps the Falcons in first place in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) at 5-0-0 and sends CUW to 6-1-1 on the year. Lake Forest is now 6-1-0 and 4-1-0 in the conference.

Friday night was a defensive slug fest.

The lone goal came in the first period when junior captain Chanler Taylor (Bloomington, Ill.) scored from the point off a pass from behind the net from junior Mackaylan McGown (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) and a secondary assist from the near wall to sophomore Sydney Fergusson (Bancroft, Ontario).

Junior goaltender Carolyn Bourgeault (Buffalo, N.Y.) was tested throughout the contest and her saves grew every period with seven, nine and 12 to complete the shutout with 28 saves in the victory.

The Falcons dominated the faceoff circle on Friday and won 69% of the draws. Mackaylan McGown won 18 faceoffs on Friday with sophomore Taylor Heleniak (Mercer, Wis.) winning 11.

Concordia can retain the Border Battle Cup with a victory on Saturday night.

The six-game winning streak was the longest to start the season for the Foresters.

The puck is scheduled to be dropped at 7:00 on Saturday night at Lake Forest.
