MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin ACHA men's hockey team defended home ice in dominant fashion Friday evening, skating to a 7–3 victory over Metro State University–Denver. The win lifts the Falcons to 11–6 on the season.
The Roadrunners struck first, capitalizing on a power play just six seconds in. But the Falcons answered quickly. Senior Andrew Malek (Milwaukee, Wis.) poked the puck loose to spring junior Chuck Emme (Glenview, Ill.) on a breakaway, and Emme buried it to tie the game.
Emme struck again late in the first period, threading a five-hole shot on the power play after slick tic-tac-toe passing from seniors Garrett Wilderman (Waukesha, Wis.) and Dominic Murano (Milwaukee, Wis.).
The Falcons kept the pressure on with another power-play goal, as sophomore Evan Neitzel (Oshkosh, Wis.) tapped in a rebound from a Rocco Cicirello (Mequon, Wis.) shot, with freshman Jackson Lord (Mequon, Wis.) earning the secondary assist.
Emme completed his hat trick moments later, firing a one-timer off a feed from Garrett Wilderman, with Tommy Cassel (Grafton, Wis.) adding the secondary assist to make it rain hats at the Ozaukee Ice Center.
Dominic Murano then added to the lead, scoring from in front after a long breakout pass from sophomore Nolan O'Malley (Chicago, Ill.).
The Roadrunners tried to rally in the third period with a pair of power-play goals, but Murano halted the comeback with his second of the night, assisted by Cassel.
Closing out the scoring, the pride of Glendale, Arizona, senior Nolan Judge unleashed a rocket from the top of the zone off a setup from Michael Anderson (Mequon, Wis.), sealing the 7–3 victory.
The Falcons dominated the stat sheet with a 54–33 edge in shots. Senior goaltender Austin Bartell (New Berlin, Wis.) stopped 30 shots in the win.
Concordia Wisconsin will look to complete the weekend sweep on Saturday afternoon.
