Falcons Defeat Thunder 3-1 in First Road Tilt

ANGOLA, Ind. - The Concordia Wisconsin women's ice hockey team defeated Trine, 3-1, in their first game of the two-game road series. This was the Falcons' first Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) game this season.

This extends the Royal Blue and Grey's win streak over the Thunder to four. The Falcons have also been 8-0-1 since the 2021-22 season.

Junior Naomi Black (Ottawa, Ontario) found the back of the net first with the help of junior Brenna-Grace Dittmer (Chatham-Kent, Ontario) and freshman Faith Fedyniak (St. Albert, Alberta). The goal scored nearly 11 minutes into the game was the junior's second goal this season and 14th in her career.

Five minutes later, junior Mackaylan McGown scored her first goal of the season. McGown was also assisted by Dittmer and Fedyniak.

Trine found a way to close in the cap 12 minutes into the second period on a power play. Just 25 seconds later, freshman Abby Hansberger scored her first career goal to keep the Falcon lead at two. Dittmer earned her third assist of the night, with Makayla Spejcher also tagging on an assist.

CUW had a season high 36 shots and held Trine to only 11. Spejcher led the team with eight shots, with both Hansberger and Fedyniak finishing with four. In faceoffs, the Falcons overpowered the Thunder, winning 32-of- 55. In McGown's 21 trips to the circle, the junior won 17 of them.

Junior Carolyn Bourgeault (Buffalo, N.Y.) stood in the crease for Concordia.  Bourgeault made 10 saves, including five in the final period.

The two squads will play the final game of the series tomorrow at Thunder Ice Arena in Angola. Puck drop is slated for 3 p.m. ET.
