MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin men's ice hockey team fell to No. 11 Trine, 4-6, Saturday afternoon. This brings the Falcons to 1-3 on the year and 0-2 after the first weekend of NCHA play.
Prior to the game the team honored it's five seniors;
Nick Maksymiu (Chicago, Wis.),
Grant Newcomer (McFarland, Wis.),
Noah Roitman (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.),
Mason Ausmus (Saline, Mich.), and
Derek Humphreys (Spokane, Wash.). The group was honored for their dedication to the men's ice hockey program, the athletics department, and the university during their time at CUW.
It was a close battle between the two teams. CUW looked for redemption after the previous day's loss. With the newfound determination, the Falcons struck first against the 11th ranked team in the country. On the power play, sophomore
Levi Carter (Keremeos, B.C.) was able to find junior
Riley Klugerman (Aurora, Ont.) in front of the net to tip it in. This was Carter's first point of the season.
The Thunder went on to score three unanswered goals, one in the first and two in the second. The Falcons were able to cut Trine's lead to just one after a goal in the final minute of the second period. Sophomore
Connor Van Weelie (Mississauga, Ont.) and freshman
Easton Penna (Coboconk, Ont.) were able to swipe the puck from the Thunder to set up a clean shot for Klugerman's second goal of the night.
Trine was able to respond quickly in the beginning third. In hopes to topple the Thunder the Falcons pushed forward. Junior
Elowan Orme-Lynch (Paris, France) was able to take the puck from the forward in their offensive zone and score.
Roughly five minutes later, senior
Derek Humphreys (Spokane, Wash.) with assists from senior
Grant Newcomer (McFarland, Wis.) and senior
Nick Maksymiu (Chicago, Ill.). This was Humphreys' first goal of the 2025-26 season.
Despite evening the score at four, the Thunder managed to score two more goals to cement their victory.
In goal for the Royal Blue and Grey was sophomore
Ewan McDevitt (Brookfield, Wis.). McDevitt made 40 saves against the Thunder, including 20 in the second period.
The Falcons look to bounce back at MSOE on Friday Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. in Milwaukee. These two teams will play for the Lake Michigan Cup, with second game at Ozaukee Ice Center the following day at 7 p.m. CUW look to bring the Cup back to Mequon, after going 1-1 against the Raiders last season.
