Landers Sets Scoring, Free-Throw Records in Double-OT Heartbreaker to MSOE

MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin men's basketball team dropped a double-overtime thriller to MSOE on Saturday night, falling 112-109 for their first NACC loss of the season. The Falcons move to 3-4 overall and 1-1 in conference play.

CUW's 109-point performance stands as the 10th-highest scoring output in program history and marks the team's first 100-point game since a 103-point effort at Rockford on Feb. 8, 2024. It also was the program's first double-overtime contest since Jan. 13, 2024, also at home, against Illinois Tech.

Senior Logan Landers (Cedarburg, Wis.) delivered a historic night, setting a new CUW single-game scoring record with 49 points, surpassing the previous mark of 45 set by Jordan Johnson in 2020. Sixteen of Landers' points came in the overtime periods.

Landers also set program records for free throws made (23) and attempted (23) in a game, finishing a perfect 23-for-23 at the line. Both previous records were held by Dan Hueller, who went 17-for-20 against MSOE in 1988. Landers added 10 rebounds for his sixth consecutive double-double.

MSOE controlled much of the night and led by as many as 20 with 14 minutes remaining. The Falcons responded with an 11-2 surge, highlighted by a Landers dunk that sparked the home crowd and shifted momentum.

Trailing 83-76 late, CUW mounted another charge, scoring nine points in under two minutes to pull within three. A clutch three-pointer from Casey Verhagen (Sheboygan, Wis.) followed by two Landers free throws brought the game even at 87-87 as regulation expired.

The first overtime was dominated by free throws, with CUW scoring all 10 of its points at the line and going a perfect 10-for-10—six from Landers and four from Verhagen.

MSOE opened the second overtime with a three-pointer and never relinquished the lead. The Falcons struggled from the field in the final five minutes and were unable to complete the comeback.

Verhagen posted a season-high 30 points and dished out a team-best five assists. Javanni Blackman (Milwaukee, Wis.) also reached double figures with 10 points.

CUW finished 36-for-88 (40.9%) from the field and went 31-for-35 at the free-throw line but shot just 6-for-27 from three-point range.

The Falcons return to action Monday when they host Edgewood at the R. John Buuck Field House. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
