MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia University Wisconsin women's basketball team improved to 10-11 overall and an impressive 9-3 in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) play with a hard-fought 59-56 victory over Rockford on Saturday.
Senior Aubrey DeBauch was the standout performer, scoring a career-high 30 points while also grabbing a team-high nine rebounds, recording three steals, and blocking one shot. Her all-around performance was key to the Falcons' success.
CUW took an early lead, finishing the first quarter ahead 15-9. DeBauch led the charge, scoring eight points on 3-of-4 shooting in the opening frame. Alongside her efforts, junior Ava Booth (Plymouth, Wis.) contributed a layup, and senior Liliana Guerra (Yorkville, Ill.) nailed a three-pointer to give the Falcons a 9-7 lead before they closed out the quarter.
The Falcons' offense continued to shine in the second quarter, outscoring the Regents 18-9 to take a commanding 33-18 lead into halftime. DeBauch remained hot, contributing 11 points in the quarter with a mix of inside baskets and free throws. The quarter was capped off by a bucket from sophomore Andrea Butterbrodt (Green Bay, Wis.), solidifying the Falcons' 15-point halftime advantage.
In the third quarter, Rockford mounted a response, outscoring CUW 17-11 as only DeBauch and sophomore Jayden Ross (Baraboo, Wis.) found the basket for the Falcons. Despite the Regents' surge, the Falcons held a 44-35 lead entering the final quarter.
Rockford continued to chip away in the fourth, trimming the CUW lead to just five points with six minutes remaining. However, Guerra hit a clutch three-pointer to extend the Falcons' lead back to eight, 50-42, with 4:18 left on the clock. A few minutes later, McNabb knocked down another key three-pointer, putting the Falcons up 54-46 with two minutes to go.
Despite some late turnovers and missed free throws, CUW maintained a narrow lead as Rockford hit a series of threes, closing the gap to just one point, 57-56, with seven seconds left. With the game on the line, DeBauch stepped up and calmly sank two free throws to extend the Falcons' lead to 59-56 with six seconds remaining.
In the final possession, the Concordia defense clamped down, preventing Rockford from getting a shot off and securing the victory.
In addition to DeBauch's career night, Booth and McNabb each added seven points, while Ross and Guerra chipped in six points apiece. The Falcons also dominated the paint, outscoring the Regents 22-18 and limiting Rockford to just 37.5% shooting from the field.
Looking ahead, CUW will aim for a third straight win as they prepare to host Alverno for another NACC matchup.
