Women's Lacrosse Slices Spalding in Season Opener

SEWANEE, Tenn. – The Concordia Wisconsin women's lacrosse team opened the 2025 campaign in the mountains of Tennessee on Sunday afternoon. The Falcons soared past Spalding with a 15-6 victory.

The Eagles threw the first punch of the day with two goals in the first five minutes of the game.

The Falcons responded with a pair of goals from junior Katelyn Cardinale (Mount Laurel, N.J.) coming 13 seconds apart.

Spalding took the momentum back with two goals within 51 seconds.

Katelyn Cardinale cut into the deficit with her third goal off a pass from sophomore Emily Robertson (Canton, Mich.).

Emily Robertson beat the horn and scored in the final second of the first quarter to tie the game.

Katelyn Cardinale continued her terrorization of the Eagles with a goal in the second quarter.

The Eagles took advantage of a Concordia card and tied the game three minutes later.

Katelyn Cardinale scored when an Eagle was in the penalty box off another assist from Emily Robertson.

Junior Delainey McCardle (Jackson, Wis.) scored in the final minute of the second quarter on a free position shot.

Senior Ava Karlov (Naperville, Ill.) started what turned out to be a five-goal quarter for the Falcons with a pair of goals.

Katelyn scored the final three goals of the frame, with one on a free position shot.

Delainey McCardle opened the fourth quarter with a goal.

Spalding needed its dry spell with a free position goal.

The Falcons ended the day with Paige Armijo scoring on a free position shot and Katelyn Cardinale netting her ninth goal of the game.

The nine goals for Cardinale are the second-most in program history, second to her own record of 11 at Augustana on March 9, 2024.

Despite getting outshot in the first quarter, the Falcons held a 26-17 advantage in shots on Sunday. Katelyn Cardinale led the attack with 11 shots and 10 on goal.

Emily Robertson and Katelyn Cardinale both gobbled up seven ground balls against Spalding.

Sophomore Parks Cawthray (Oakville, Ontario) had six saves in the victory.

The Falcons close the Tennessee trip on Tuesday at Sewanee.
