SEWANEE, Tenn. – After a strong season opener victory, the Concordia University Wisconsin women's lacrosse team was defeated 19-2 by the Sewanee Tigers in their Tennessee trip finale.
Sewanee set the tone early, jumping out to an 8-0 lead by the end of the first quarter.
The Falcons got on the board in the second quarter with a man-up goal from junior Katelyn Cardinale (Mount Laurel, N.J.), assisted by senior Natalie Mackrell (Florissant, Colo.).
At halftime, the Tigers led 11-1.
CUW added another goal in the fourth quarter when Mackrell charged down the field for an unassisted score.
However, Sewanee maintained their fast-paced play in the second half, securing the 19-2 win.
Defensively, junior Juliana Beadle (Franklin, Wis.) and Mackrell led the team with three ground balls each. Mackrell also recorded a team-high three caused turnovers, while Beadle forced two.
Junior Delainey McCardle (Jackson, Wis.) and sophomore Emily Robertson (Canton, Mich.) each added two ground balls.
In goal, sophomore Parks Cawthray (Oakville, Ont.) totaled seven saves.
Offensively, Cardinale led the Falcons with two shots on goal, while Mackrell registered two shots and scored a goal. Both Cardinale and Mackrell finished with one goal apiece.
The Falcons went 11-for-21 on clear attempts as a team.
Looking ahead, the Blue and White will resume play on Friday when they travel to Carroll for their next matchup.
