WAUKESHA, Wis. – The Concordia University Wisconsin women's lacrosse team suffered a 19-2 defeat against the undefeated Carroll Pioneers, dropping to 1-2 on the season.
Carroll secured a 6-0 lead in the first quarter.
The Falcons responded in the second quarter when junior Katelyn Cardinale (Mount Laurel, N.J.) scored off a pass from sophomore Carolyn Bourgeault (Buffalo, N.Y.) with 10:06 remaining.
CUW's defense stepped up for the rest of the half, as sophomore goalie Parks Cawthray (Oakville, Ont.) recorded several saves. Juniors Juliana Beadle (Franklin, Wis.) and Delainey McCardle (Jackson, Wis.), along with freshman Cassie Sego (Oak Creek, Wis.), caused turnovers to keep the Pioneers off the board for the remainder of the half.
However, the Pioneers pulled away after the break, outscoring the Falcons 6-0 in the third quarter.
In the final frame, CUW got one back when sophomore Emily Robertson (Canton, Mich.) navigated through Carroll's defense to score.
Cardinale led the Falcons with five shots. She also tallied three ground balls.
Cawthray posted a team-high four ground balls to go along with 10 saves.
Robertson, along with seniors Paige Armijo (Reseda, Calif.) and Ava Karlov (Naperville, Ill.), each recorded two ground balls, while Robertson and Delainey McCardle forced two turnovers apiece.
On draw controls, Cardinale and senior Natalie Mackrell (Florissant, Calif.) each had two.
The Falcons will look to bounce back next Saturday in their home opener against Adrian College.
