MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin men's volleyball team battled one of the toughest teams in the nation on Saturday afternoon. The 10th-ranked Spartans secured a 27-25, 25-20, 25-17 victory to improve to 19-3 on the year and 8-0 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.
The Falcons held an early lead in the first set. A bad set pushed the Concordia lead to 11-7. The Spartans flipped the switch and claimed an 18-15 lead. Concordia clawed back and pushed the lead back to 21-19 with a kill from senior Kellen Gonzales (Milwaukee, Wis.). A kill from senior Lucas Beres (Germantown, Wis.) gave the Falcons a set point at 24-22. The Spartans fought back to tie the set at 24. A block from junior Tate Miller (Anthem, Ariz.) and Lucas Beres gave the Falcons set point once again, but the Spartans claimed the next three points to win, 27-25.
The Spartans led wire-to-wire in the second set. Despite the Spartans' late lead, the Falcons fought off three set points, including a service ace from freshman Reid Scott (Chandler, Ariz.). A kill ended the set at 25-20 for the Black and Blue.
Aurora jumped out to an early 7-1 lead in the third set. The Falcons trimmed the Aurora lead to three points on three occasions, at 12-15, 13-16, and 14-17, but they could not overtake the Spartans.
The Falcons were led by Kellen Gonzales offensively with six kills.
Senior Logan Kebisek (Brookfield, Wis.) fed the Concordia attack with 20 assists.
Tate Miller led the match with three blocks and Reid Scott had a team-best 10 digs against Aurora.
Aurora was the seventh ranked opponent the Falcons faced in 2025.
Concordia looks to bounce back on Tuesday at home against Wisconsin Lutheran.
