VERONA, Wis. – After rallying to tie the game, a late third-quarter surge spoiled Saturday for the Concordia Wisconsin women's lacrosse team. Edgewood picked up a 15-12 victory to send the Falcons to 5-9 and 4-4 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.
Edgewood scored the first goal of the game 90 seconds into the contest.
Senior Natalie Mackrell (Florissant, Colo.) Stormed down field to tie the game at one.
The Eagles elevated the lead to 4-1 with a 3-0 run.
Sophomore Carolyn Bourgeault (Buffalo, N.Y.) ended the Eagles' run with a free-position goal with 1:40 left in the first quarter.
Edgewood responded with two more goals to close the first quarter.

Junior Katelyn Cardinale (Mount Laurel, N.J.) scored a minute later on a low shot off a pass from freshman Sophia Whiteaker (Normal, Ill.).
Edgewood ended the Concordia scoring spree with a goal with 6:19 left in the second quarter. The Eagles added to the lead with a free-position goal with 4:57 left in the quarter. They then won the draw control, rushed down the field, and scored again 19 seconds later.
Katelyn Cardinale stopped the skid with a free-position goal with 2:35 left.
CUW was able to take advantage of an Edgewood card, and Natalie Mackrell found the back of the net off a pass from Carolyn Bourgeault.
The third-quarter scoring started on the stick of Katelyn Cardinale on a free-position shot with 12:01 left in the quarter.
After both teams tried to scoop up a loose ball for a while, the Falcons calmed down the offense, and Natalie Mackrell found Bourgeault in front of the net, and Carolyn Bourgeault tied the game at nine.
The Eales reclaimed the lead 60 seconds later at 10-9.
The Falcons quickly responded, and Carolyn Bourgeault tied the game on a free-position shot with 6:14 left in the quarter.
Edgewood took an 11-10 lead with a shot in front of the cage with 4:30 left in the third quarter. The Eagles elevated the lead to 12-10 63 seconds later. Edgewood closed the third quarter on a 5-0 run, including two goals in the final minute.

Natalie Mackrell closed the gap with a goal with 4:46 left.
Edgewood held a 29-27 advantage in shots on Saturday.

The Falcons close the regular season on Wednesday at MSOE. If the Falcons win, they are in the six-team NACC Tournament. CUW is currently in a three-way tie for fifth place with Beloit and MSOE. If CUW wins, they could finish as high as fourth place with wins from Aurora against Cornell and Edgewood against Beloit. If Concordia loses, the season is over.
