Falcons Secure Second Place at NACC Championships

DE PERE, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin women's track & field team finished the two-day Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday. The Falcons finished the championships with three titles, after claiming two on Saturday. As a team, Concordia Wisconsin finished in second place with 150 points. The Green Knights of St. Norbert won with 269.50 points. Jacey Read was also named the NACC Freshman of the Year.

The Falcons opened the day by taking the crown in the 4x100-meter relay. The team of senior Maya Hielscher (Macomb, Mich.), freshman Jacey Read (Carbondale, Colo.), freshman Natiya Ballard (Stoughton, Wis.), and senior Sabrina Moore (Park Ridge, Ill.) claimed the title with a season-best time of 49.23.

Junior Melanie Arvis (Berwyn, Ill.) secured the silver medal in the 1500-meter run with a career-best time of 4:50.07.

In the 100-meter hurdles, Maya Hielscher snagged the silver medal with a personal-best time of 15.05, and sophomore Emma Eilertson (Mukwonago, Wis.) was eighth at 16.39.

CUW had two in the 100-meter dash finals. Jacey Read won the bronze medal at 12.36, the fastest time of her career, and Sabrina Moore was sixth at 12.67, the fastest time of her career. Read also finished third in the 200-meter dash at 25.81.

The Falcons had two medalists in the 800-meter run. Junior Danielle Van Grinsven (Appleton, Wis.) was second at 2:20.13 with a career-best time and Melanie Arvis was third with a career-best time of 2:21.23.

In the 400-meter hurdles, sophomore Olivia Ebel (Mount Clemens, Mich.) earned a third-place finish at 1:08.02, for a career-best time.

The Birds soared in the 5000-meter run with three Falcons earning points. Junior Ainara Sainz de Rozas (Madrid, Spain) was second at 17:10.51, sophomore Emma Ahrens (Stephens City, Va.) was third at 17:39.67, and Melanie Arvis was fourth at 18:17.76. Sophomore Mikayla Becker (Plantation, Fla.) was 13th at 20:10.71 with a career-best time, and sophomore Abigail Lange (Pleasant Prairie, Wis.) was 15th at 20:55.86.

Emma Eilertson earned the bronze medal in the high jump at 1.57 meters. Jacey Read finished fourth at 1.52 meters, Maya Hielscher was ninth at 1.42 meters, Amiyah Jackson was 12th at 1.42 meters and senior Ashley Burk (Watertown, Wis.) was 14th at 1.37 meters.

CUW closed the day in the 4x400 meter relay in fourth place. The team of Olivia Ebel, Kylee Camble, Elizabeth Backus, and Danielle Van Grinsven finished at 4:17.68, the season's fastest time.

The Falcons had five compete in the shot put on Saturday. Paige Schreiber led the way in 12th place at 10.23 meters. Sophomore Bryanna Mursch (Grafton, Wis.) was 13th at 10.15 meters, junior Kailey Ramaker (Cedarburg, Wis.) was 13th at 10.15 meters, freshman Makenna Herbrand (Fond du Lac, Wis.) was 15th at 9.83 meters, and sophomore Morgan Feuker (Mount Pleasant, Wis.) was 17th at 9.62 meters.

Concordia scored two marks in the long jump. Maya Hielscher led the flock in fifth place at 5.18 meters, freshman Amiyah Jackson was sixth at 5.13 meters, Natiya Ballard was 12th at 4.86 meters, and Sabrina Moore was 13th at 4.80 meters.

Five Falcons threw in the hammer throw. Kailey Ramaker was 10th with a career-best mark of 37.37 meters, Makenna Herbrand was 11th with a career-best 36.50 meters, Morgan Feuker was 17th at 31.28 meters, Bryanna Mursch was 18th at 30.38 meters, and in 25th place was freshman Madysen Gonzagowski (Madison, Wis.) at 20.75 meters.

Saturday closed the team portion of the schedule.
