RICHMOND, Ind. – The Concordia Wisconsin field hockey team continued its hot start on Sunday. The Falcons improved to 3-1 on the year with a 3-1 victory over Wittenberg at Earlham.
The Falcons controlled the momentum for the first quarter on Sunday and had three penalty corners in the first 15 minutes, the third resulted in a shot for freshman Charlie Coln (St. Louis, Mo.) in the final seconds of the quarter.
The Blue and White broke the game open with two goals in the second quarter. Freshman Kaitlin Baylen (Antioch, Ill.) scored on a scrum in front of the cage.
The Birds doubled the lead 24 seconds later after junior Maddie Rider (Danville, Pa.) stole the ball and stormed down the field to score.
Concordia held the 2-0 lead going into halftime.
Maddie Rider struck again in the 35th minute off a deflection from Charlie Coln.
The Tigers spoiled the shutout in the 43rd minute off a penalty corner.
The Falcons shut down the Tigers to only one shot in the fourth quarter to preserve the victory.
The Blue and White held an 18-4 advantage in shots on Sunday.
Junior Parks Cawthray (Oakville, Ont.) claimed the victory on Sunday in the start.
The start ties the 2018 season for the best start to a season in program history.
The Falcons will return to action next Sunday at Maryville.
