Concordia University Wisconsin to Join College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin in 2027

MEQUON, Wis. — Concordia University Wisconsin (CUW) announced on Wednesday that it has accepted an invitation to join the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW), one of the premier NCAA Division III conferences in the nation. CUW will officially begin competing as a CCIW member in the 2027–28 academic year.

"This is an exciting new chapter in the life of our university," said CUW President Dr. Erik Ankerberg. "Membership in the CCIW reflects Concordia's deep commitment to excellence and to providing our student athletes with opportunities to compete and grow at the highest levels. The CCIW is an excellent fit for our mission, our size, and our aspirations."

The CCIW is widely recognized as one of the strongest and most respected conferences in Division III athletics. Its member institutions include Augustana College, Carroll University, Carthage College, Elmhurst University, Illinois Wesleyan University, Millikin University, North Central College, North Park University, and Wheaton College. By joining the CCIW, CUW student-athletes will have the opportunity to build exciting new competitive relationships.

"Our coaches, student-athletes, and campus community are excited for this transition," said Rob Barnhill, CUW Director of Athletics. "At the same time, we are profoundly appreciative of the NACC. The relationships and rivalries we've built there will always be an important part of our story."

CUW has been a proud and active member of the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) since the NACC's founding in 2006. The university emphasized its gratitude for the competition, fellowship, and friendships fostered within the NACC over nearly two decades.

"We are deeply thankful for the NACC and the many ways its institutions have shaped and strengthened Concordia athletics," Dr. Ankerberg said. "Our coaches, student-athletes, and alumni have enjoyed countless memorable moments in the NACC, and we look forward to continuing to compete vigorously over the next two years."

Over the next two years, CUW will establish a steering committee and work diligently to ensure a smooth transition to the CCIW, while honoring its commitments and continuing to compete with pride in the NACC.
