Falcons Fall to Eagles to Open NACC Play

MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia University men's soccer team fell to Benedictine, 0-4, at home on Wednesday evening. This was the first day of conference play for the Northern Athletic Collegiate Conference (NACC) this season.

The Eagles seemed to have an edge over the Falcons since the beginning of the game, getting their first goal in before the 10-minute mark. CUW's defense did not give up and pushed forward allowing the Falcons to make plays in the offensive zone. The Blue and Grey were awarded eight penalty kicks during the contest and got off 12 shots, six on goal.

Leading the team in shots was freshman Matthew Payne (Franklin, Ind.). Payne earned his first starting lineup spot of his young career this game and capitalized on it with three shots, two of which were on goal. Fellow freshman Samuel Ortiz (Milwaukee, Wis.) also picked up two shots, both being on goal.

The Falcons struggled to maintain control of the ball after being assessed 22 fouls and five yellow cards during the game. This gave Benedictine a chance to push the ball into their offensive zone.

Senior Enrique Torres (Eau Claire, Wis.) protected the Falcon's goal the entirety of the game. In 22 shots faced, Torres managed two saves and four goals allowed.

Concordia Wisconsin return to their home pitch on Saturday with a match-up against Wisconsin Lutheran. The game is slated for 3:00 p.m. at Fitting Field.
