Emme's Hat Trick Pushed Falcons over Blue Demons in OT

MEQUON, Wis. - The Concordia Wisconsin men's ACHA hockey team defeated DePaul, 5-4, in an overtime showdown. This was the first game in NHCL play for the Falcons as they look to bring the Hap Cup to Mequon.

Junior Chuck Emme (Glenview, Ill.) earned himself a hat trick with his game-winning goal only 21 seconds into overtime. Emme first scored in the second period, with assists from graduate students Garrett Wilderman (Waukesha, Wis.) and Tommy Cassel (Grafton, Wis.). His second goal of the night was shorthanded and unassisted in the third.

Cassel scored the first goal of the night in the second, after a scoreless first period. Cassel, assisted by Emme, scored two minutes into the period. DePaul tied the game with eight minutes left in the contest. At the 10-minute mark in the third, sophomore Dominic Murano (Milwaukee, Wis.) scored to give the Falcons the edge.

The Blue Demons once again tied the game. Despite a 5-on-3 opportunity for the visitors, the Falcons held strong in the final minutes to send the game into overtime.

Concordia's offense controlled the puck for the majority of the contest, finishing with an outstanding 60 shots. Emme led the team with 14, and Wilderman had 10. The Falcon's defense held DePaul to only 34 shots. Junior goaltender Ryley Gross (Hazenmore, Sask.) collected 30 saves during the contest.

CUW will play DePaul tomorrow in Chicago. The two conference rivals will play at Johnn's Icehouse West with puck drop slated for 3:30 p.m.
