Men's Soccer Held Back by Pointers

MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin men's soccer team fell, 2-3, to UW-Stevens Point on Saturday evening. This was only the second meeting between the two teams, the Pointers have the edge over the Falcons, 2-0.
 
UW-Stevens Point got off to a hot start scoring two goals in the first half. As the final 45 minutes began the Flacons closed in on the Pointers lead, scoring 1:23 into the half. Sophomore Nevin Volarath (Algonquin, Ill.) found the back of the net with help from fellow sophomore Harris Burgos (Milwaukee, Wis.). The Pointers responded with a goal of their own four minutes later to put their lead back to two goals.
 
At the 63-minute mark freshman Jonah Kinsey (Cedarburg, Wis.) connected with graduate student Sam Butterfield (St. Louis, Mo.) to put the score at, 2-3. Depite the momentum from their second goal, the Falcons were not able to get past the Pointers back line to tie the game.
 
Freshman Logan Montgomery (McKinney, Texas) made only his second appearance and first start in goal for CUW. Montgomery faced 23 shots and grabbed eight saves against UW-Stevens Point.
 
On offense, sophomore Huba Hajdu (Las Vegas, Nev.) led the team on offense, having four of the Falcons 10 shots. Freshmen Ronan Kessler (Glenview, Ill.) and Samuel Ortiz (Milwaukee, Wis.) attempted two shots each.
 
Concordia Wisconsin returns to conference play on Wednesday, Oct. 1 at Fitting Field. The Falcons are set to battle Dominican with first kick slated for 4 p.m.
