WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Concordia University Wisconsin field hockey team improved to 2-0 on the season after a, 1-0, win over Washington & Jefferson. This the first time since the 2018 season that the Falcons start the season undefeated after two games.

It was a tight battle between the two programs with no score until the final three minutes of the game. CUW attempted 22 shots, 16 on goal, during the contest. They amassed 11 shots during the third quarter alone. The Falcon's defense held strong, only allowing six shots for the Presidents.

The game-winning goal by Concordia Wisconsin came with the help of a penalty corner by junior Bella Vandelocht (St. Louis, Mo.). Freshman
Bente Scheeres (Noordwijk, Netherland) and senior
Katelyn Cardinale (Mt. Laurel, N.J.) passed the ball to senior
Katie Quirke who sent the ball over the goal-line.

Kaitlin Baylen (Antioch, Ill.) led the team in shots with seven, five of those were on goal, another team high. Sophomore
Carlijn van der Bend (Voorburg, Netherlands) protected the CUW goal during the entirety of the contest. Van der Bend picked up her first shutout win of her career.

The Falcons will stay in Washington, Pa. for a neutral sight match versus Roanoke tomorrow. The match-up is slated to begin tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. ET on the campus of William & Jefferson.
