DE PERE, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin women's hockey team rallied back on Friday night to earn two key points in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association standings. Concordia Wisconsin came from behind to post a 3-3 tie at No. 14 St. Norbert, CUW earned the extra point with a 1-0 shootout victory. The Falcons are now 13-1-1 on the year and 8-0-1 in the NCHA.
St. Norbert struck first on Friday with a pair of first-period goals.
Freshman Abby Hansberger (Elk River, Minn.) cut the lead in half with the lone goal of the second with an assist to junior Brenna-Grace Dittmer (Chatham-Kent, Ontario).
The Green and Gold pushed the lead to 3-1 with just over five minutes left in the game.
A minute later, Abby Hansberger knocked in a rebound off a junior Mackaylan McGown (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) save that was sent up by a beautiful pass from junior Naomi Black (Ottawa, Ontario).
Abby Hansberger tied the game with less than two minutes left in the game. on a backhanded shot off assist from Naomi Black and Brenna-Grace Dittmer.
After a tied overtime session, the shootout went into round when without a goal, sophomore Taylor Heleniak (Mercer, Wis.) snuck the puck past the goalie in the seventh round for the lone goal of the shootout to earn the shootout victory.
Sophomore Gretchen Paaverud (Ramsey, Minn.) had 29 saves on Friday night.
Mackaylan McGown won 19 of her 31 faceoffs.
Friday marked the second career hat trick for Abby Hansberger.
The Falcons close the weekend series against No. 14 St. Norbert on Saturday night.
