MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin women's hockey team collected three key points in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association standings on Saturday night. The Falcons grounded the 14th-ranked Green Knights of St. Norbert with a 4-0 victory. The Blue and White extended the unbeaten streak to 14 games with the 4-0 victory over No. 14 St. Norbert.
The game started out with both defenses shutting down a power play opportunity in the first period.
The Falcons finally broke free in the backend of the first period when sophomore Scout Stromberg (Tomahawk, Wis.) collected with senior Makayla Spejcher (Green Bay, Wis.) on a breakaway and Spejcher lit the lamp.
The second period continued to be the Falcons strong point with three goals added to the scoreboard.
Scout Stromberg once again bounced the puck to Makayla Spejcher for anther breakaway opportunity. With the defense closing in, Spejcher sank a sharp-angled shot into the net.
Junior Naomi Black (Ottawa, Ontario) added to the lead when she stole the puck at the blue line, dangled past a defender and chopped in her own rebound.
The junior captain Chanler Taylor (Bloomington, Ill.) closed the scoring with a shot in front of the net off assists from freshman Julie Barlow (Bassano, Alberta) and Makayla Spejcher.
With the assist, Makayla Spejcher tied the program record for career points with 107, with Brooke Gibson.
The Concordia defense did an excellent job of minimizing opportunities for St. Norbert in the third period to preserve the shutout.
Sophomore Gretchen Paaverud (Ramsey, Minn.) was dominate once again and finished with 22 saves in her fourth shutout of the season. Concordia has posted a shutout victory in four of the last five games.
The four goals allowed ties the season high for No. 14 St. Norbert with the 0-4 loss to No. 1 Wisconsin-River Falls.
The victory snaps a seven-game unbeaten streak for the Green Knights against CUW. Saturday marked the first win for the Falcons over St. Norbert since the 1-0 victory on Dec. 4, 2021 and the first win in the Ozaukee Ice Center since Nov. 16, 2018 with a 5-1 victory.
The Birds owned the faceoff circle once again on Saturday, winning a majority of the faceoffs with junior Mackaylan McGown (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) leading the game with 13 victories and Julie Barlow winning seven of her eight.
Saturday marked the first ranked victory for the Falcons since the 1-0 victory at No. 5 Adrian on Feb. 7, 2025.
Today's victory also secures a spot for the Falcons in the 2026 NCHA Slaats Cup.
Concordia returns to action on Friday night when they travel to Aurora.
