GENEVA, Ill. – The 14th-ranked Falcons cruised to a 7-1 victory on Friday night at Aurora. The victory sends Concordia to 15-1-1 on the year and to 10-0-1.
Sophomore Scout Stromberg (Tomahawk, Wis.) started the scoring halfway through the first period after she took the puck at center ice and skated past the defenders and had a backhanded-top shelf beauty to start the scoring.
CUW struck again 45 seconds later, junior Ava Litkey (Kenosha, Wis.) ripped a shot in from distance off passes from freshman Faith Fedyniak (St. Albert, Alberta) and freshman Jordan McQuade (Brampton, Ontario).
Junior Mackaylan McGown (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) stuffed in the lone goal of the second period near the crease off a rebound of a sophomore Sydney Fergusson (Bancroft, Ontario) shot and a pass from behind the net from freshman Abby Hansberger (Elk River, Minn.).
Junior Naomi Black (Ottawa, Ontario) started the third-period scoring with a little bump to clear out the defender as she charged towards the crease and scored off assists from Abby Hansberger and Mackaylan McGown.
The Spartans scored their lone goal on a two-on-one advantage.
The Falcons quickly responded with a power-play goal from Mackaylan McGown off an assist from Naomi Black.
Sophomore Taylor Heleniak (Mercer, Wis.) added to the lead with a shot from the far circle off a cross-ice pass from Abby Hansberger.
Faith Fedyniak lit the lamp with 0.2 left on a breakaway with a breakaway with sophomore Kayla Gomes (Harrow, Ontario).
Sophomore Gretchen Paaverud (Ramsey, Minn.) had 10 saves in the victory.
The Falcons did not allow a power-play goal on the game.
Concordia held a 30-11 advantage in shots on Friday night.
The Birds won the faceoff battle on Friday night and were led by Mackaylan McGown with 12.
Friday was the first victory for the Falcons in Geneva since Jan. 24, 2020. CUW had been 0-8-1 at Aurora in that time. The seven goals are the most CUW has scored on Aurora in program history.
The Falcons look to sweep the series on Saturday afternoon in the Ozaukee Ice Center.
