MEQUON, Wis. – For the second-straight week, the Concordia Wisconsin women's hockey team had two student-athletes receive honors from the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA). On Tuesday morning, the NCHA released its Women's Hockey Three Stars of the Week and a pair of Falcons earned the honor for the first time.
Gretchen Paaverud and Abby Hansberger were honored after the Falcons took five of six points from the weekend series against No. 14 St. Norbert.
A freshman forward from Elk River, Minnesota, Abby Hansberger earned her star status after scoring all three goals on Friday night to help force a 3-3 tie in De Pere, that the Falcons claimed a 1-0 shootout victory to earn the extra point in the standings.The three-goal performance was the second hat trick of her young career,
The sensational sophomore goaltender form Ramsey, Minnesota, Gretchen Paaverud was a brick wall once again for the Falcons this past weekend against the Green Knights. She picked up a season-high 29 saves at St. Norbert and did not allow a goal in seven rounds of the shootout. The pride of Ramsey then posted her fourth shutout of the season with 22 saves in the 4-0 victory.
These two added to an already large cast of Falcons to have claimed the honor this season with Naomi Black, Carolyn Bourgeault, Eva Kingston, Mackaylan McGown and Makayla Spejcher all securing star status.
Hannah Baumann of MSOE was the other NCHA Star of the Week.
The Falcons return to action on Friday when they travel to Aurora.
