MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin women's hockey season came to an end in the Slaats Cup Semifinals on Saturday night. The Green Knights of St. Norbert College advanced to the Slaats Cup Finals with a 3-2 victory.
Freshman Jordan McQuade (Brampton, Ontario) lit the lamp just 58 seconds into the game, firing a shot from the blue line that trickled in off a pass from sophomore Taylor Heleniak (Mercer, Wis.), with a secondary assist credited to senior Makayla Spejcher (Green Bay, Wis.).
After a scoreless second period, the Blue and White struck again when freshman Julie Barlow (Bassano, Alberta) redirected a shot from sophomore Sydney Fergusson (Bancroft, Ontario) to extend the lead.
The Green Knights answered midway through the period to cut the deficit in half before adding two more goals in the second to complete the comeback.
Concordia held a 35-29 advantage in shots on goal. Sophomore Gretchen Paaverud (Ramsey, Minn.) recorded 26 saves in net.
The Falcons controlled the faceoff circle, winning 37 of 57 draws. Junior Mackaylan McGown (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) went 20-for-26 on faceoffs.
Concordia concludes the season with a 24-3-1 record. The senior class of Hailey Calliguri (Lonsdale, Minn.), Makayla Spejcher, and Charlotte Toor (Hartland, Mich.) closes its career as the program's winningest class with 70 victories.
Adrian College will host St. Norbert on Saturday night in the Slaats Cup Finals.
