RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The Concordia Wisconsin men's basketball team delivered a dominant road performance, cruising to a 91–65 victory over Dominican on Wednesday night. With the win, the Falcons completed a season sweep of the Stars, extended their advantage in the all-time series to 27–7, and improved to 8–9 overall and 6–5 in NACC play.
Concordia Wisconsin set the tone early, outscoring Dominican 27–12 in the opening 10 minutes of the contest. The surge included a decisive 17–2 run over nearly three and a half minutes. Junior
Severin Hilt (West Bend, Wis.) fueled the run with eight points, highlighted by back-to-back three-pointers to cap the stretch, while freshman
Alex Greene (Milwaukee, Wis.) also connected from beyond the arc.
The Falcons' offensive momentum carried through the remainder of the first half, as they took a 50–31 lead into the break. CUW shot an impressive 66.7 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes, going 18-for-27 overall and 4-for-8 from three-point range.
Concordia maintained its strong play throughout the second half, building its lead to a game-high 25 points with 10:10 remaining. Dominican attempted to mount a late comeback, but the Falcons' lead proved insurmountable. CUW never trailed in the contest, leading for 94.9 percent of the game and allowing just one tie.
The Falcons turned in their best shooting performance of the season, finishing 33-for-56 (.589) from the floor. Concordia dominated inside, outscoring Dominican 44-42 in the paint and holding a 15-13 advantage in second-chance points. Fast-break scoring was also a key factor, as CUW posted 19 points in transition while limiting the Stars to nine.
Senior
Logan Landers (Cedarburg, Wis.) led all scorers with a standout performance, pouring in 37 points and pulling down 15 rebounds for his 11th double-double of the season. Landers shot 11-of-17 from the field and was perfect from the free-throw line, going 15-for-15. Defensively, he anchored the paint with a career-high six blocks, helping the Falcons record a season-best nine blocks as a team.
Junior
Casey Verhagen added 12 points and was instrumental on both ends of the floor. He dished out a season-high nine assists to go along with four steals, leading the Falcons in both categories and helping CUW finish with a season-best 21 assists.
Sophomore
Luke Eggemeyer (Perryville, Mo.) and Hilt also reached double figures, scoring 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Concordia Wisconsin returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 25, with another road matchup against Edgewood. Tipoff is scheduled for 3:15 p.m. at the Todd Wehr Edgedome in Madison, Wis.
