MADISON, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin men's basketball team secured a hard-fought 77–74 road victory over Edgewood on Saturday afternoon. The win completed a season sweep of the Eagles and extended the Falcons' winning streak in the all-time series to seven games. With the victory, CUW improved to 9–9 overall and 7–4 in NACC play.
The contest remained tight throughout the first half, but with 5:13 remaining, the Falcons put together a decisive 14–2 run to take a 40–32 lead into the break. Junior
Casey Verhagen (Sheboygan, Wis.) scored four points during the surge, while senior
Logan Landers (Cedarburg, Wis.) converted three free throws. Junior
Severin Hilt (West Bend, Wis.) capped the run with a three-pointer that energized the Falcons' bench.
Concordia Wisconsin carried the momentum into the second half, extending its lead to as many as 11 points with just over 15 minutes remaining.
Edgewood responded with several timely three-pointers to trim the deficit. With six minutes left, the Falcons' advantage had been cut to just one point, 64–63.
CUW remained poised down the stretch. A layup by Landers with 55 seconds remaining provided a key boost, and despite a late three-pointer by the Eagles, the Falcons capitalized at the free-throw line. Sophomore
Luke Eggemeyer (Perryville, Mo.) and Landers each knocked down clutch free throws to seal the victory.
Landers recorded his 12th double-double of the season, finishing with 18 points and 15 rebounds. The performance marked his 21st career double-double as a Falcon, tying the program record set by Brandon Keller during the 2021–22 season.
Verhagen led all scorers with 23 points and also paced the Falcons with seven assists and four steals. Hilt and freshman
Alex Greene (Milwaukee, Wis.) added 13 points apiece, with Greene shooting an efficient 6-of-8 from the field.
The Falcons return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 18, when they host Concordia Chicago. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the R. John Buuck Field House.
