Men's Soccer Comes Up Short at Edgewood

VERONA, Wis. - The Concordia University Wisconsin men's soccer team (1-8-1, 0-5 NACC) fell to the Edgewood Eagles (4-4-2, 4-1 NACC) 3-2 Saturday afternoon at Redden Park.

The Falcons got on the board first when junior midfielder Nevin Volarath (Algonquin, Ill.) found the back of the net in the fifth minute to take an early 1-0 lead. The goal was assisted by junior midfielder Jahsiah Acosta (Milwaukee, Wis.) and senior midfielder Carson Kelly (Fond du Lac, Wis.).

However, the Eagles responded shortly after in the ninth minute to tie the match at 1-1.

In the 30th minute, sophomore forward Matthew Payne (Franklin, Ind.) netted his first goal of the season, as CUW retook the lead and had a 2-1 advantage heading into the locker room.

In the second half, Edgewood added two goals in the 66th and 74th minutes to tie the match and retake the lead, eventually securing the 3-1 victory.

Volarath's lone goal was his first of the season. Sophomore Logan Montgomery (McKinney Texas) recorded five saves in the match.

The Falcons are back in action on Oct. 7 to host Concordia Chicago at 4 p.m. CST.
