MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin men's hockey team closed the book on the home portion of the 2025-2026 season on Friday night against the Marian Sabres. The Falcons forced overtime, but fell 3-4, moving to 10-13-1 on the year and to 6-10-1 in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association.
The Sabres struck first on Friday with a shot in front of the cage halfway through the first period.
Junior Elowan Orme-Lynch (Paris, France) tied the game late in the first period with a shot through traffic off assists from freshman Kieran Ronan (New Hartford, N.Y.) and junior Matt Koepke (Vernon Hills, Ill.).
The Falcons took the lead in the second period when freshman Pier-Olivier Allard (Quebec, Quebec) found sophomore Connor Van Weelie (Mississauga, Ontario) on the far side of the net for an easy goal.
Marian tied the game up four minutes later and scored on a power play in the third period to take the lead.
The comeback effort was chilled late in the third period, when the Falcons were given a penalty late in the period, but the Falcons showed grit and sophomore Jack Guvenal (Georgetown, Ontario) snuck the puck past the keeper off passes from freshman Cooper Brown (Airdrie, Alberta) and freshman Matt Green (Barrie, Ontario) for a shorthanded goal in the final minute of regulation.
The Falcons were able to kill off the penalty in overtime, but the Sabres caught the Falcons in a line change for a breakaway goal to claim the extra point.
Junior Blake Hazelton (Spokane, Wash.) posted 27 saves on Friday night.
With the loss, the Falcons can now finish as high as sixth place. CUW closes the regular season on Saturday against Marian.
