Women’s Hockey Splits with No. 9 Adrian

MEQUON, Wis. – The 13th-ranked Falcons had their 20-game unbeaten streak snapped on Saturday afternoon. The ninth-ranked Bulldogs of Adrian jumped back into first place in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association standings with a 5-2 victory.

Jordan McQuade started the scoring 67 seconds into the contest off passes from senior Makayla Spejcher (Green Bay, Wis.) and freshman Faith Fedyniak (St. Albert, Alberta).

The Falcons doubled the lead early in the second period when freshman Abby Hansberger (Elk River, Minn.) cruised to the net to light the lamp off assists from junior Naomi Black (Ottawa, Ontario) and junior Mackaylan McGown (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.).

It was all Bulldogs from there as Adrian closed the game on a 5-0 run.

Adrian held a 33-19 advantage in shots on Saturday, with sophomore Gretchen Paaverud (Ramsey, Minn.) finishing with 27 saves.

The Falcons owned the faceoff circle on Saturday, winning 29 of the 47 draws. Mackaylan McGown won 17 of her 21 faceoffs.

Adrian jumps back into the driver seat in the race for the regular-season title at 45 points at 15-1-0. Concordia is at 14-1-1 with 44 points and can not finish lower than second place.

The Falcons hit the road for the last time in the regular season on Friday night when they travel to Marian.
