MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin women's lacrosse team faced a tough challenge on Thursday afternoon against the undefeated Pioneers of Carroll. The Pioneers improved to 7-0 with a 21-4 victory to send the Falcons to 2-4.
The Orange and Blue opened the scoring with the first five goals of the contest.
Senior Claire Geidel (Seward, Neb.) put the Falcons on the scoreboard with a woman-up goal when she snuck past the defense off the feed from senior Makayla Spejcher (Green Bay, Wis.).
Carroll added two more goals before senior Katelyn Cardinale (Mount Laurel, N.J.) scored off a beautiful pass from junior Naomi Black (Ottawa, Ontario).
Carroll held a 15-2 lead as the horn blew for halftime. The visitors scored three more goals in the third quarter.
Makayla Spejcher started the fourth-quarter scoring after she cut through a trio of Pioneer defenders to find the back of the net.
Katelyn Cardinale scored the final Concordia goal of the game in front of the net off a pass from junior Carolyn Bourgeault (Buffalo, N.Y.).
Junior Parks Cawthray (Oakville, Ontario) collected 12 saves against Carroll.
Naomi Black caused two turnovers and Katelyn Cardinale came up with six draw controls to lead the Falcons.
The Birds are back in action on Wednesday when they open Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play at Aurora.
