CUW Opens First Chance Invite with Distance, Hammer Throw Events

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – The Concordia University Wisconsin men's track and field team competed on the first day of the North Central College First Chance Invite on Friday. The opening day featured the Distance Fling along with the hammer throw.
 
DISTANCE FLING
In the 1500m, freshman Liam Wielert (Crown Point, Ind.) led the Falcons with a 16th-place finish, clocking a time of 4:18.51. Classmate Kaden Sanfelippo (Glendale, Wis.) also competed in the event, placing 24th with a time of 4:22.01.
 
Fellow freshman Jackson Huebner (Watertown, Wis.) and sophomore Eric Krause (Jackson, Wis.) also ran the 1500m, finishing in 4:38.75 and 4:43.77, respectively.
 
Freshman Carter Bonlender (Eldorado, Wis.) and junior Riley Johnson (Cedar Lake, Ind.) competed in the 3000m steeplechase. Bonlender finished 16th with a time of 10:56.69, while Johnson placed 18th in 12:22.84.
 
In the 5000m, junior Mason Everts (Saukville, Wis.) posted the Falcons' top performance of the event, finishing 34th with a personal-best time of 16:33.05.
 
FIRST CHANCE INVITE
The men's throwing squad competed in the hammer throw on day one of the meet. Senior John Kutner (Muskego, Wis.) led the Falcons with a season-best mark of 42.54m.
 
Sophomores Dawson Kolka (Sanford, Mich.) and Hayden Kettmann (Beecher, Ill.) each recorded personal-best throws, finishing 13th and 17th, respectively. Kolka posted a mark of 37.58m, while Kettman reached 34.18m.
 
The Falcons will return to action tomorrow for the final day of the First Chance Invite, beginning at 9 a.m. with field events. Running events are scheduled to begin at noon.
