TUCSON, Ariz. – The Concordia University Wisconsin baseball team fell 10–5 to La Verne on Thursday night. The matchup marked the first meeting between the two programs. With the result, the Falcons move to 0-5 on the season.
The Leopards built a 5-0 lead through the bottom of the fourth inning. Concordia Wisconsin found its spark in the top of the fifth when freshman
Dylan Hein (Dyer, Ind.) and senior
Brandon McCray (Corona, Calif.) drew back-to-back walks. After two quick outs, sophomore
Graham Kasten (Mequon, Wis.) stepped in to pinch hit and delivered in a big way, launching a three-run home run over the fence. The blast was his first of the season and the ninth of his career.
La Verne responded by adding four more runs before the Falcons crossed the plate again. In the top of the seventh, Kasten drove in another run with a double, allowing senior
Matt Miller (Fredonia, Wis.) to score from first.
Freshman
Jameson Dick (Chesapeake, Va.) led the Falcons at the plate with three hits, while Kasten went a perfect 2-for-2 in his two trips to the plate with four RBIs.
Freshman
Easton Oliver (West Bend, Wis.) made the start on the mound for the Falcons, pitching 4.2 innings before classmate
Jackson Kobylarczyk (Jackson, Wis.) came on in relief for the remainder of the game. Oliver moves to 0-2 on the season.
The Falcons return to the diamond tomorrow for games against La Verne and Bethany Lutheran.
