Deep Hole Dooms Falcons

MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin women's lacrosse team had the opportunity to lock up a home Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) home Tournament Quarterfinals contest with a win on Saturday. That did not happen, as Edgewood walked away with a 13-7 victory to send the Falcons to 7-7 and 5-3 in conference play.

Edgewood held an early advantage after scoring eight goals on nine shots in the first quarter.

Senior Katelyn Cardinale (Mount Laurel, N.J.) put the Falcons on the scoreboard scoring off a free-position pass from freshman Faith Schmitz (Chilton, Wis.).

The Red and Black scored the next three goals to take an 11-1 lead.

Katelyn Cardinale started the comeback with a free-position goal.

Edgewood scored the final goal of the first half and held a 12-2 lead going into halftime.

Junior Carolyn Bourgeault (Buffalo, N.Y.) stole the ball back and stormed the net to spark the third-quarter comeback.

A minute later, sophomore Anna Washburn (Suffield, Conn.) scored on a free-position shot.

Katelyn Cardinale found the back of the net a minute later off a pass from Carolyn Bourgeault.

The fourth CUW goal of the third quarter came off the stick of Carolyn Bourgeault and an assist to junior Emily Robertson (Canton, Mich.).

Edgewood scored the final goal of the quarter to take a 13-6 lead into the fourth quarter.

Whistles reigned supreme in the fourth quarter to silence an offensive opportunity, but Katelyn Cardinale scored a woman-up goal in the final minute of the game after she spun past the defense.

The officials were dealing out cards like a casino on Saturday with 19 cards handed out for a total of 28 penalty minutes.

Both teams finished with 25 shots, with Edgewood holding a 20-14 advantage in shots on goal. Junior Parks Cawthray (Oakville, Ontario) was credited with seven saves.

The leaders for Concordia on Saturday were Katelyn Cardinale with four goals and nine shots, senior Delainey McCardle (Jackson, Wis.) with four ground balls, senior Makayla Spejcher (Green Bay, Wis.) with two caused turnovers and Emily Robertson with five draw controls.

The loss sets up a showdown on Wednesday against MSOE for the right to host the NACC Tournament Quarterfinals on April 25.
