KENOSHA, Wis. – The Concordia University Wisconsin men's track and field team competed in rainy conditions at the Wisconsin Private College Championships on Thursday. Hosted by Carthage, the meet featured eight teams, with the Falcons finishing fifth with 65 points.
A group of Falcon distance runners braved the weather on the track. Freshman
Kaden Sanfelippo (Glendale, Wis.) led the way with a second-place finish in the 800 meters, completing the race in 2:00.85. Freshman
Gabriel Baker (Stockton, Calif.) also competed in the event, setting a new personal record of 2:10.29 to place seventh.
A trio of CUW middle-distance runners competed in the 1500 meters, each recording personal bests. Freshman
Liam Wielert (Crown Point, Ind.) led the Falcons with a 13th-place finish in 4:16.39. Junior
Mason Everts (Saukville, Wis.) followed in 25th with a time of 4:28.83, while sophomore
Eric Krause (Jackson, Wis.) placed 36th after crossing the line in 4:42.39.
Junior
Riley Johnson (Cedar Lake, Ind.) competed in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, placing 10th with a personal-best time of 11:41.73.
The Falcon pole vaulters and high jumpers competed indoors at Carthage's indoor track and field facility due to the weather. In the pole vault, freshman
Cooper Parent (O'Fallon, Ill.) placed third with a mark of 3.75 meters, while junior
Zach Wendland (Green Bay, Wis.) finished fourth after clearing 3.45 meters. Wendland also competed in the high jump, taking fifth after clearing 1.80 meters.
In the throwing events, sophomore
Clayton Nichols (Okauchee, Wis.) finished second in the javelin with a mark of 36.92 meters. Junior
Luke Witte (Monroe, Mich.) and senior
John Kutner (Muskego, Wis.) also competed in the event, finishing back-to-back in fourth and fifth, respectively. Kutner also placed fourth in the hammer throw with a mark of 44.58 meters.
Sophomore
Dayne Baker (Watertown, Wis.) recorded the top finish for the Falcons in the shot put, placing fourth with a throw of 13.78 meters. He capped off his day with a third-place finish in the discus, reaching 41.84 meters on his fifth attempt. Sophomore
Dawson Kolka (Sanford, Mich.) also cracked the top 10 in the discus, setting a new personal best of 37.69 meters to place seventh.
The Falcons will return to action next Friday at the Beloit Relays. Hosted by Beloit College, field events are scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m., with running events to follow at 6 p.m. at the Strong Stadium Complex in Beloit, Wisconsin.
