MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin baseball team hosted the Marian Sabres for a beautiful Wednesday afternoon on the shores of Lake Michigan. The Falcons were able to take game one from Marian, 8-4, before the Sabres struck back in game two, 3-2. The split sends Concordia to 16-16 on the year and 12-6 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.
Freshman Jack Anzelmo (Appleton, Wis.) started the scoring early in game one with a single to right field that scored freshman Cameron Bueno (Milwaukee, Wis.) with the bases loaded.
The Sabres leveled the game at one, but the Falcons quickly bounced back with three runs in the bottom half of the inning.
Senior Brandon McCray (Corona, Calif.) started the scoring spree with a single to right field that plated junior Jason Valdez (Glendale Heights, Ill.).
Cameron Bueno then scored Matt Miller on a shot to shortstop.
McCray later scored on a junior Connor Lasch (Chicago, Ill.) single to left field and Jack Anzelmo struck again with a double to left field that scored Connor Lasch.
Marian to a chunk out of the lead with three runs crossing home plate.
Junior Alex Ames (Plymouth, Wis.) earned a run back in the bottom half of the inning to send home senior Matt Miller (Fredonia, Wis.).
In the sixth inning, freshman Dylan Hein (Dyer, Ind.) smacked a double to left field, scoring Connor Lasch.
Connor Lasch closed the scoring with a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning to allow Matt Miller to scamper home.
Freshman Preston Regnier (Yorkville, Ill.) earned his second win of the season and had four strikeouts on the mound.
The Falcons stole four bases in game one.
Game two was a defensive battle and the Falcons did not have their first hit until the fourth inning.
The Sabres were the first on the scoreboard with a run in the fourth inning.
The Falcons claimed the lead on the bat of junior Luke Heinkel (Brookfield, Wis.) with a single to center field that cleared the bases of Jack Anzelmo and Dylan Hein.
The Sabres slashed two runs on the scoreboard and that was enough to secure the victory.
Freshman Jackson Kobylarczyk (Jackson, Wis.) had six strikeouts in the start and senior Tyler Bartczak (Crestwood, Ill.) struck out all three batters he faced.
The Falcons look to clinch a spot in the NACC Tournament when they host Illinois Tech on Saturday.
