Birds Shut Out Tigers for Second Victory of Season

MEQUON, Wis. - The Concordia University Wisconsin women's field hockey team (2-2) defeated the Wittenberg Tigers (1-3) 2-0 Saturday morning at Tomasini Stadium.

The Falcons got on the board first in the first quarter. Freshman forward Aly Schuster (Colgate, Wis.) found the back of the net at the 7:02 mark to put her team ahead 1-0 for her second goal in two games.

Concordia University Wisconsin outshot Wittenberg 8-2 in the first quarter with six of those goals being on target.

The Birds maintained their offensive pressure heading into the second quarter, where they outshot the Tigers 5-0 to preserve their 1-0 lead at halftime.

In the third quarter, Concordia Wisconsin doubled its lead when freshman midfielder Emilia Rojas (Santiago, Chile) dribbled from the 50-yard line into the circle and slotted the ball past the goalkeeper at the 38:53 mark for her first collegiate career goal. 

The Falcons outshot the Tigers 21-1 in the final two quarters and 34-3 overall to earn their second win and second shutout victory of the season. CUW also generated 10 corners, while Wittenberg earned three on the day.

Concordia Wisconsin is back in action on Sunday, Sept. 13 to host DePauw at 11 a.m. CST.
