Time to forget about those non conference results and focus on
the NAC regular season! CUW is 1-0 in conference action after
suffocating Rockford's offense during a 23-0 Century Stadium win
Saturday afternoon.
Concordia defenders held the Regents to 5 first downs and 57
total yards while setting up all four Falcon scores. Unable to
mount any consisent offense themselves, Greg Etter's team relied on
multiple big plays by their defenders and special teams.
Dan Winsey's booming 46 yard field goal got the Falcons on the
board ten minutes into the second quarter after a Rockford
turnover.
CUW's first touchdown came shortly before halftime when Leon
Davis returned a punt 45 yards down the right sideline to make it
10-0.
Both second half defensively-created scores were neatly
gift-wrapped "drives" of 1 and 2 yards respectively.
A Regent punt attempt was blocked and recovered by Concordia at
the visitor's 1 yard line on the third quarter's first series.
Kasiem Duran dove in from there.
The second score was a 2 yd. plunge after Rockford fumbled at
their own two with two minutes remaining in that third period.
Offensive statistics for both sides were negligible. Rockford
was 1 of 18 on third down conversion attempts while Concordia was 3
of 18. Regent passers completed 3 of 26 aerials with 2 passes
intercepted by CUW's Justin Rogers while Falcon QBs connected on
just 6 of 24 attempts.
"We needed a win... any way- plain and simple," said Coach
Etter. The Falcons look to make it 2-0 when they host Maranatha
next Saturday at 1:00pm.
