Concordia's defense was just too tough for Maranatha to deal
with Saturday as the Falcons held the Crusader offense to 8 total
yards for the entire afternoon on the way to a 35-0 win.
Neither team got anything going in their first two possesions,
but Concordia eventually put together a 72 yard march to paydirt at
the end of the first quarter. Carlton Austin carried 3 times for
45 yards on that series before Anthony Bruder bolted over from 3
yards out.
CUW scored twice within :30 in quarter number two; first on a 12
yard scoring run by Matt Gould; and then again on a Pat Czerwiek to
Tommy Guest TD toss after Maranatha fumbled the
ensuing kickoff.
Falcon Ben Bobowski ran back an interception for one final
period score and Austin rambled 13 yards for another to create the
35-0 final.
Greg Etter's troops amassed 281 yards of real estate with Austin
churning out 114 of those on 13 carries. Czerwiek completed 10 of
23 passes for 108 yards with Leon Davis snaring 4 of those
completions for 37 yards.
The visitors had -17 yards rushing and 25 passing for the entire
afternoon. Concordia picked off 3 of Bobby O'Brien's 9 aerial
attempts (two by Bobowski) and the third by Matt Upson.
Concordia (2-0 in the NAC) will travel to Benedictine (also 2-0)
next Saturday.
