Concordia could not hold an early 4-1 lead and eventually lost a
tough 6-5 decision to host Edgewood Saturday afternoon in the first
game of a crucial NAC doubleheader.
After the Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the first, CUW came back with a
pair of second inning scores. Dan Shea's ground out drove in Matt
Mayer to tie the game and then Jonathon Olla, who had singled,
eventually came around on a sacrifice fly by Ryan Schilter.
Val Keiper's team added a pair of runs in the third. Austin
Sarauer's double drove in one of those runs and the second scored
on an Eagle throwing error.
Edgewood got to Falcon ace Derrick Pankow for 3 runs in the fourth,
two coming on a homer by Mike Selvaggi.
That momentarily tied the score before Jim Landweher homered in the
Eagle fifth to give Edgewood a 5-4 lead.
The hosts got what proved to be the game-winner on a wild pitch in
the sixth.
CUW had runners on second and third with nobody out in the 8th but
three infield outs produced only one run.
Edgewood (23-12 overall) improved to 13-5 in the NAC while
Concordia fell to 11-4 in league play after the game one loss.
