CUW Competes at Whitewater

WHITEWATER, Wis. - On Friday, the Concordia University Wisconsin men's track and field team competed at the Squig Converse Open hosted by UW-Whitewater. As a team, the Falcons finished in 10th place with 10 points, while the host team, UW-Whitewater, dominated with 142 points.

The Falcons were represented in the heptathlon by sophomore Zach Wendland (Green Bay, Wis.) and senior Jacob Couillard (Kingston, Mich.) on the first day of competition.

In the long jump, Wendland posted a mark of 5.84 meters, placing seventh among the heptathletes, while Couillard reached 4.89 meters for 12th.

In the 60-meter dash, Wendland clocked in at 7.83 seconds, while Couillard finished in 8.47 seconds, securing 10th and 13th places, respectively.

Wendland excelled in the high jump, taking first place by clearing 1.87 meters, while Couillard finished 10th with a mark of 1.63 meters.

In the shot put, Couillard earned third place with a throw of 11.02 meters, and Wendland followed with a throw of 8.54 meters.

At the end of day one, Wendland sat in eighth place with 2,247 points, while Couillard was in 11th with 1,827 points. The two will complete the remainder of their heptathlon on day two.

Elsewhere in the meet, sophomore Se'Korrey Thomas (Punta Gorda, Fla.) posted the fastest 60-meter dash time for the Falcons, crossing the finish line in 7.31 seconds.

Junior Brandon Donahue (Slinger, Wis.) led the Falcons in the 60-meter hurdles, clocking a time of 9.28 seconds.

In the 200-meter dash, freshman Kam'Ron Pierre (Santa Clarita, Calif.) led the way with a time of 25.01 seconds, closely followed by sophomore Josh Sipes (Charleston, Ill.) at 25.30 seconds.

Sipes also competed in the 400-meter dash, where he posted the team's best time of 56.78 seconds, with freshman Brock Roseman (Pueblo, Colo.) finishing shortly behind at 56.81 seconds.

In the 800-meter race, Jaden Schultz (Havana, Ill.) ran a time of 2:04.30.

The 5000-meter race saw senior Timmy Brey (Cedarburg, Wis.) finish in fourth place with a time of 15:17.94, earning the Falcons 10 team points. Freshman Jonah Slavik (Muskego, Wis.) took sixth with a time of 15:43.73, adding two more points for the team.

Pierre also led the Falcons in the long jump, setting a personal record with a mark of 5.84 meters. Junior Nick Taylor (West Bend, Wis.) jumped 5.39 meters.

In the throws, freshman Lucas Mathes (Brillion, Wis.) posted a distance of 12.38 meters in the shot put, while sophomore Aaron Klug (Arlington, Va.) reached 11.06 meters. Junior John Kutner (Muskego, Wis.) led the team with a throw of 12.85 meters.

Freshman Kayden Kettman (Beecher, Ill.) added a mark of 10.87 meters, while Kutner recorded 10.73 meters. Rounding out the throwing squad was freshman Clayton Nichols (Oconomowoc, Wis.), who posted a throw of 10.31 meters.

Sophomore Zach Wendland and senior Jacob Couillard completed their heptathlon events at the UW-Whitewater Squig Converse Invite the following day, competing in the 60-meter hurdles, pole vault, and 1000-meter run.

Wendland finished fourth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.35 seconds, while Couillard clocked in at 10.99 seconds. In the pole vault, Wendland cleared 3.00 meters to take seventh place.

In the 1000-meter run, Wendland finished second among the heptathletes with a time of 2:47.82, while Couillard finished with a time of 3:50.08.

Overall, Wendland placed sixth out of 13 competitors with a final score of 4,064 points, while Couillard finished 12th with 2,456 points. Wendland's sixth-place finish earned the Falcons three points, contributing to their total of 13 points for 10th place overall.

With the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) meet approaching, the Falcons will next compete at the Ripon Red Hawk Invite.
