RIVER FORREST, Ill. - The Concordia Wisconsin football team kept its unblemished conference record alive with a 47-20 win over Concordia Chicago. This increased the Falcons' win streak to six, as the team is still undefeated in NACC Play at 6-0 and a 7-1 overall record.
The Falcons received the ball at the start of the contest. After six plays, they punted the ball to the awaiting Cougars. During the return, junior
Duncan Ireland III (Eagle, Wis.) forced and recovered a fumble at the 16-yard line. Sophomore
Roman Funk (Scottsdale, Ariz.) made his way back to the field for a quick one-play drive. Funk sent a short pass left to senior
Jason Leonard (Tampa, Fla.), who made his way into the endzone.
After a short drive by CUC, CUW found the endzone yet again. During the sixth play of the drive, Funk found junior
Drew Allen (Madison, Wis.) just a few yards down the middle of the field. Allen made his way through the opposing defense to increase the Falcons' lead to 13-0.
With two minutes left in the quarter, the Cougars found themselves facing a long drive down the field. Before they had a chance, senior
CJ Green (Madison, Wis.) forced a fumble and took it 13 yards for a touchdown. After the failed extra-point kick in the previous scoring drive, the Falcons elected to go for two. A catch made by Leonard moved the squad's lead to 21.
Concordia Chicago had their first scoring drive of the game to begin the second quarter. Concordia Wisconsin immediately responded with a touchdown of its own to keep the margin at 21. The nearly five-minute drive was pushed by senior
Ashar Thomas (Punta Gorda, Fla.) and sophomore
Victor Watson Jr. (Cypress, Texas). Watson Jr. had a 17-yard rush and a 21-yard reception. Thomas had a rush of 21 yards. The touchdown came from Leonard, who received an 11-yard pass from Funk.
The Cougars were able to score one more time to put the game at 28-14 going into halftime.
CUC received the ball after the half, but the Falcon defense pushed the Cougars to a kick four-and-out. The Falcons' first possession of the half ended with another touchdown caught by Leonard, this one being a 17-yard catch. Concordia Chicago responded yet again with a touchdown. Although the extra point was blocked by sophomore
Logan Dable (Waukesha, Wis.).
The Falcons' final score of the quarter came at the 6:12 mark in the third. The six-play drive was capped with the second touchdown of the quarter, caught by Leonard, his fourth of the contest. This one came from a 25-yard pass by Funk, ending the quarter at 41-20.
The final scoring play of the game came at the start of the fourth quarter. The Falcons began their drive in the final seconds of the third before sophomore
Kam'Ron Pierre (Canyon, Country, Calif.) caught a 29-yard pass up the middle from Funk to put the score at 47-20.
Roman Funk ended the day with 292 passing yards, going 20-30. The sophomore threw for six touchdowns, with his longest being 30 yards. Freshman
Ben Jimenez (Waukesha, Wis.) made only his third appearance this season, completing one pass for 15 yards.
Ashar Thomas led the team in rushing with 49 yards on nine carries.
Jerome Hinton made seven attempts, totaling a net of 44 yards. In receiving,
Jason Leonard's four receiving touchdowns are a career high. Overall, Leonard finished with eight receptions and 138 yards.
Victor Watson Jr. had four receptions for 52 yards.
On defense, four Falcons totaled six tackles on the day: sophomore
Max Michonski (Chicago, Ill.), sophomore
Kadin Huisinga (Glendale, Ariz.), freshman
Kaleb Weikel (Andover, Minn.), and sophomore
Jack Bloomquist (New Berlin, Wis.). Huisinga also had the only Falcon interception on the day. The sophomore, along with sophomore
Jadon Lewis (Milwaukee, Wis.), shared the largest sack on the day for a loss of three yards.
The Falcons start a two-game home stand to conclude the regular season. Up first will be Rockford on Saturday, Nov. 1, at Tomasini Stadium. First kick is slated for 1 p.m.
