PLYMOUTH, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin wrestling team competed in their first dual of the season at Lakeland Thursday night, losing 48-6.
The Muskies had an advantage early with two, 6-0, Falcon forfeits at the 125 and 141-pound weight class. The first bout of the night was freshman
Elijah Torres (Chicago, Ill.) at 133-pounds. Torres tried to maintain control against his opponent, Rigo Tellez. 4:18 into the bout, Torres eventually lost by fall.
Freshman
Ben Kaus (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) and senior
Frank Budederi (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) competed at 149 and 157-pounds, respectively, both losing by tech fall. Kaus was able to get points on the board against Carson Smith but a tech fall came 3:25 in. Budederi remained in the contest against Jesse Burg. As the buzzer sounded to end the second period, Burg overpowered the Falcons' senior to win by tech fall.
Freshman
Hunter Burr (Cudahy, Wis.) at 165-pounds and senior
Dawson Galvan (Chula Vista, Calif.) 174-pounds, also suffered defeat by falls. Freshman
Tylan Watts (New Orleans, La.) also suffered at tech fall at 184-pounds.
CUW's sole victory of the day came from senior
Ruben Vasquez (Westminster, Calif.). The 197-pound bout between Vasquez and Evan Saevre was an even matched showdown. The two wrestlers stayed in it but as the second period came to a close Vasquez took his chance. The senior maneuvered Saevre into a fall, earning the Falcons six points.
The heavyweight battle between sophomore
KeiKei Evans (San Anronio, Texas) and Diego Morales was also close. The two went the full seven minutes with the Muskie's Morales winning the decision at 6-0.
The Falcons return to the mat Friday at R. John Buuck Fieldhouse on Friday to host MSOE. The two CCIW rivals will face off at 7 p.m.
