Martinez Places Eighth as Falcons Wrap Season at NCAA Regional

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The Concordia University Wisconsin wrestling team closed out its 2025–26 season Saturday at the NCAA Division III Region VII Championships, hosted by UW–Eau Claire. The Falcons placed 15th out of 16 teams with 11 points, while Augsburg captured the team title with 213 points.
 
Sophomore Anastacio Martinez (Albuquerque, N.M.)  was the lone Falcon to advance to day two after posting a 2–1 record on Friday at 133. Competing in the consolation bracket, Martinez opened Saturday against Tyler Evitts of Aurora in the third round. Martinez built a 5–0 advantage entering the final period, but Evitts rallied late with two takedowns and a nearfall. Martinez added an escape, though Evitts secured a 10–6 decision.
 
Martinez remained alive in the placing rounds and squared off with Ryan Hanson of UW–Oshkosh in the seventh-place match. Hanson seized control early and recorded a fall at 2:51, leaving Martinez with an eighth-place finish to conclude his regional run.
 
FRIDAY
Anastacio Martinez advanced through the opening day at 133 pounds. He began with a first-period fall over Garrett Head (Pacific University) at 2:03. Martinez then dropped a championship second-round match by fall to Chance Suddeth (Augsburg University).
 
In the consolation bracket, Martinez earned a 15-0 technical fall against Connor McDonald (Pacific), recording two takedowns, a four-point nearfall, a two-point nearfall, and riding-time bonus. The victory secured his spot in Saturday's competition.
 
Freshman Ben Kaus (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) opened at 149 with a loss by fall to Matt Randolph (Augsburg). He rebounded with a 25-second pin of Christian Mardock (Pacific) in the consolation bracket—his fastest fall of the season—before falling by pin to Landon Church (UW-Eau Claire) to conclude his tournament.
 
Senior Ruben Vasquez (Westminster, Calif.) dropped his opening bout by fall to Jackson Kirsh (UW-Platteville). He responded with a 6-1 decision over Teke Nieto (Augustana University), using takedowns in the first and third periods. Vasquez then fell 8-2 to Mason Swanson (Concordia-Moorhead) in his final match of the day.
 
Senior Dawson Galvan (Chula Vista, Calif.-174), and freshmen Hunter Burr (Cudahy, Wis.-165), Noah Henderson (Hartland, Wis.-141), Tyson Skubal (Menoqua, Wis.-157), Elijah Torres (Chicago, Ill.-125), and Tylan Watts (New Orleans, La.-184) each dropped two matches and were eliminated from competition.
 
Friday marked the final collegiate matches for seniors Vasquez and Galvan.
