MEQUON, Wis. — The Concordia University Wisconsin wrestling team hosted its 31st Annual CUW Invite at the R. John Buuk Fieldhouse. This year's tournament featured 16 teams from across the United States, and the Falcons competed with 12 wrestlers across multiple weight classes.
Freshman
Elijah Torres Torres (Chicago, Ill.) wrestled in the 125-pound division. He opened his day with a 10–2 victory over Elmhurst's Owen Brotherton in the third period. Torres then fell by tech fall in the first period of his second-round match. In the consolation bracket, he earned a tech fall win over Dontre McClose of Carthage before concluding his day with another tech fall loss.
At 133 pounds, sophomore
Anastacio Martinez (Albuquerque, N.M.) secured a first-period fall against Adrian's Eugene Barrientes. He then dropped his remaining two matches by decision and major decision.
Freshman
Noah Henderson (Hartland, Wis.) competed in the 141-pound bracket. After an opening loss by fall, Henderson rebounded with a major-decision victory over Joseph Budde of Dubuque. His tournament concluded with a tech fall loss in the consolation bracket.
The Falcons had two competitors at 149 pounds: freshmen
Ben Kaus (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) and
Reese Elliott (San Jacinto, Calif.). Kraus earned a tech fall victory over Wheaton's Cale Coppess in the first round and narrowly lost by decision in the second. He then pinned Caleb Nobiling of UW–Stevens Point before being eliminated by decision in the consolation quarterfinals. Elliot faced two challenging opponents and was unable to secure a win.
Freshmen
Tyson Skubal (157 lbs.),
Hunter Burr (165 lbs.), and
Tylan Watts (174 lbs.) were unable to record victories in their respective matches.
Senior
Dawson Galvan (Chula Vista, Calif.), also competing at 174 pounds, opened with a fall against Anthony Berry of Carthage, scoring the pin with a takedown. He then suffered consecutive losses by fall and tech fall.
Senior
Ruben Vasquez (Westminster, Calif.) advanced to the quarterfinals in the 197-pound division. Vasquez began his day with a fall over Jared Werner of Carthage and followed with a 14–7 decision over Hunter Eastin of Loras after a full seven minutes. He was defeated by tech fall in the championship quarterfinals and later lost by fall in the consolation bracket.
In the heavyweight division, sophomore
KeiKei Evans (San Antonio, Texas) dropped his opening match by tech fall but responded with two straight consolation victories—a decision over Dallas Smith of Adrian and a tech fall over Patrick Conneely of Loras. His day ended with a major-decision loss in the consolation quarterfinals.
Freshman
Samuel Smith (Houston Texas), also competing at heavyweight, received a first-round bye before losing by fall in his first match. He rebounded with a fall against Garvin Crews of Loras but concluded his day with another loss by fall.
Concordia will return to action after the Thanksgiving holiday with a home doubleheader on Friday, Dec. 5. The Falcons will face Illinois Wesleyan at 6 p.m., followed by Carthage at 7:30 p.m.
