BELOIT, Wis. – The Concordia University Wisconsin men's track and field team secured a third-place finish at the Beloit Relays, racking up 175 points in a strong team performance.
The Falcons dominated the throwing events, collecting 52 points. In the javelin, senior Holte Gette (Batavia, Ill.) led the charge with a gold-medal throw of 50.56 meters. Freshman Justin Clark (Goodyear, Ariz.) earned silver with a throw of 49.39 meters. Freshman Zach Wendland (Green Bay, Wis.) placed fourth at 43.89 meters, and junior Nick Taylor (West Bend, Wis.) rounded out the scoring with a mark of 41.29 meters.
Freshman Hayden Kettman (Beecher, Ill.) took fifth in the shot put with a throw of 12.75 meters, while junior John Kutner (Muskego, Wis.) finished eighth at 11.18 meters.
In the discus, Kettman placed fifth with a mark of 36.22 meters. Kutner followed in eighth with a throw of 33.63 meters, and freshman Clayton Nichols (Oconomowoc, Wis.) contributed with a ninth-place finish at 33.02 meters.
Kutner continued to produce points with a bronze finish in the hammer throw. Senior Jacob Couillard (Kingsford, Mich.) took fifth with a mark of 35.35 meters, while Nichols and Kettman also contributed to the scoring.
Concordia added 45 points in the jumps. In the triple jump, freshman Lucas Mathes (Brillion, Wis.) earned silver with a leap of 13.07 meters. Sophomore Aaron Klug (Arlington, Va.) also scored, finishing eighth at 11.95 meters.
Mathes led CUW in the long jump as well, reaching 6.00 meters. Freshman Kam'ron Pierre (Santa Clarita, Calif.) took sixth with a jump of 5.89 meters.
In the high jump, Wendland cleared 1.83 meters for second place. Couillard added four more points with a fifth-place finish.
The Falcons excelled in the pole vault, where Wendland took gold after clearing 3.58 meters. Couillard tied for second with a mark of 3.43 meters.
In the distance events, Concordia totaled 31 points. Sophomore Isaiah Lubner (Campbellsport, Wis.) won the 800-meter with a time of 1:56.53. Senior Zach Leahy (West Dundee, Ill.) took first in the 1500-meter, finishing in 4:06.25. Sophomore Riley Johnson (Hanover, Ind.) placed fourth in the steeplechase with a time of 11:28.05, and sophomore Mason Everts (Saukville, Wis.) earned third in the 10,000-meter at 35:24.64.
The hurdles accounted for 22 points. In the 400-meter hurdles, Wendland placed second in 56.60. Freshman Luke Witte (Monroe, Mich.) took sixth with a time of 1:04.46, while Klug placed eighth in 1:06.37.
In the 110-meter hurdles, junior Brandon Donahue (Hubertus, Wis.) finished third with a time of 16.22, and Couillard added a fifth-place finish in 19.28.
The sprints brought in 19 points. Sophomore Se'Korrey Thomas (Punta Gorda, Fla.) placed fourth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.37. In the 100-meter, freshman Jalen Pressley (Leesburg, Fla.) claimed third in 11.06 seconds, and Thomas added a fifth-place finish in 11.25.
Freshman Brock Roseman (Pueblo, Colo.) scored in the 400-meter with a seventh-place time of 52.99. Freshman Dominic Ceballos (Milwaukee, Wis.) finished ninth.
To close out the meet, the Falcons added six points in the relays, securing their third-place overall finish.
Concordia returns to action next Thursday at Wisconsin Lutheran.
