MEQUON, Wis. - The Concordia University Wisconsin Esports program completed its 2024–25 campaign with one of the most successful seasons in program history, capturing three championships, posting multiple undefeated regular seasons, and making two national finals appearances. The Call of Duty and Overwatch teams each brought home titles in the spring, while Valorant earned both a fall regional crown and a spring national runner-up finish. Rocket League also turned in a strong year with top-two placements in both varsity and junior varsity regional brackets.
The fall semester ended on a high note as CUW made a strong statement at the regional tournament hosted by Lakeland. The Valorant varsity and junior varsity squads both captured regional titles, with the varsity team dominating opponents and losing just 10 rounds across five matches. In Rocket League, both the varsity and JV teams finished as regional runners-up, setting the tone for what would become a breakout year for the program.
The Falcons carried that momentum into the spring, opening the semester with a 9-2 record across five different games. Valorant remained unbeaten with wins over UNC-Charlotte, Farmingdale, and MSOE. The Call of Duty squad matched that perfection, sweeping opponents like SAU, Southern Missouri, and Nelson. Overwatch earned a commanding 3-0 win against UW-Milwaukee in its only match of January, while Rocket League earned series wins over Wilmington and Roger Williams. CUW's Smash Bros team dropped a tight match to UW-Green Bay, but overall, the program's strong start set the stage for championship contention.
The postseason brought history. On April 11, the CUW Call of Duty team captured its first ECAC National Championship with a flawless 4-0 sweep of Michigan Tech. The Falcons completed a perfect 10-0 season, winning all 32 maps played — the first team in program history to go undefeated in both matches and individual maps. Led by team captain Aziz "Metty" Mrioued, the Falcons delivered a run of dominance rarely seen in collegiate Esports. "To finish it undefeated with a 32-0 map count is something truly special," said Mrioued.
Just three days later, the Overwatch team added more hardware to the trophy case, claiming the Wisconsin Esports Conference (WEC) Regional Championship with a 3-0 win over Lawrence University. CUW entered as the No. 1 seed and lived up to the billing, going wire-to-wire in the bracket to secure the regional crown.
Meanwhile, the Valorant varsity team reached the ECAC Grand Finals with an undefeated record and faced Roosevelt University on April 15. Although the Falcons came up just short in the national title match, their path to the finals was marked by decisive victories and consistent team synergy. The junior varsity Valorant team also celebrated a regional title earlier in the season, defeating Marian in a thrilling 2-1 series.
At season's end, the Falcons had secured three championships — ECAC Call of Duty, WEC Overwatch, and regional Valorant (varsity and JV) — while competing in two national finals and posting one of the most dominant team performances in program history.
With an exciting mix of returners and rising talent, CUW Esports is poised for continued growth in 2025–26. The 2024–25 season will be remembered as a defining chapter — one filled with championships, unbeaten runs, and a program-wide elevation to new competitive heights.
